About Yasser Hamed
History:
I’m originally from Cairo, Egypt, however mostly raised in Australia. I now live in Los Angeles, California.
I’m currently a Visual Effects Technical Director at Sony Pictures ImageWorks in Culver City California, USA. I am responsible for R&D that goes behind visual effects in high-end feature films.
I’ve worked on movies such as ‘Happy Feet’, ‘Beowulf’, and just recently finished work on the animated feature film ‘Cloudy with a Chance of Meatballs’ (Sony Pictures Animation). I’m now working on Tim Burton’s ‘Alice in Wonderland’ and ‘2012′.
I’ve spent most years growing up in Newcastle which is located about 100 miles (160km) North of Sydney, It’s also where most of my friends still reside.
I’ve also lived in Sydney, Armidale, Cairo, and Columbia, Missouri.
Flying History:
My first flying solo was conducted in a Cessna 152 at Bankstown Airport, Australia in April 2004.
I have been flying ever since and finally got my full Australian Private Pilot Licence PPL early 2009. In May 2009 I was issued my United States Private Pilot Certificate based on my Australian license.
I have over 100 hours total flying time.
Interests:
My interests lie in almost everything but in particular; Flying & Aviation, Film/Film making, photography, computer graphics, travelling, extreme sports, music, science, cars, and playing drums.
Education:
I have a bachelor of Engineering (Mechanical) from the University of Newcastle, with focus on computational and numerical techniques.
